Kozhencherry is a census town in Pathanamthitta district of Central Travancore region (South Central Kerala) in Kerala state, South India. As of 2011 census, the population was 12,021 people in 3,393 households. It is one of the main city in the Pathanamthitta, District. It is on the banks of river Pampa. It is a commercial centre and many banks and trade companies have their establishments here. It is believed that once the Kovilans of Thekencore kingdom's ruled this area. Kozhencherry used to be a part of the erstwhile Travancore kingdom.
The Maramon Convention, one of the largest Christian convention in Asia, is held at Maramon, Pathanamthitta, Kerala, India annually during the month of February on the vast sand-bed of the Pampa River next to the Kozhencherry Bridge. It is organised by Mar Thoma Evangelistic Association, the missionary wing of the Mar Thoma Church.
The origin and growth of this annual get-together for one week at a stretch can be traced to the great revival movement which gathered momentum during the reformation period in the Syrian Churches of Kerala under the pioneering leadership of Abraham Malpan in the latter part of the 19th century. This brought about the transformation in resurgence of the ancient apostolic Churches in Kerala founded by St. Thomas the Apostle approximately in AD 52.
Pandalam palace is the permanent home for the royal family of Pandalam. It's situated on the banks of river Achankovil. Although most of the original buildings have vanished by flood and fires, a few still remain which could be witnessed in the area among the newly constructed buildings.
There are two palace complexes at present. The first one is Valiyakoikkal Temple imitazioni orologi and the other one is Kaipuzha Temple. Valiya koikkal temple is situated on the left bank of Achankovil river and the Kaipuzha temple is situated about one kilometer away from the first on the right bank.
It's believed that the Pandalam Kingdom was established around c.79 (903 AD) by the Pandalam royal family who are believed to be the descendents of Pandiya kings of Madurai. The royal family of Pandalam belongs to the Bhargava gotra. Territories of the kingdom extended to over 1,000 square miles (2,600 km2) consisting of mountain ranges and forests
